I have had this idea running around in my head for a while now after seeing some nail decorations in the Japan Centre down at Piccadilly, about making a disco diva doll with a white afro, silvery/blue makeup with sparkly stars and other tiny jewels.
Started to look around for a white afro – with no luck.
So decided that I had to make one myself but was not sure where to find the ‘hair’.
Looked around normal wig shops but the ‘curl’ were a little too big.
Even considered getting a Momoko doll and cutting her hair of but decided that that would be a little too expensive and rather stupid. Why waste a whole doll just because I wanted to make a wig?
Then, when in DK in September I picked up a Panduro hobby catalogue and just before Christmas actually had a look through it and DING! They sell doll curly doll hair by the bag!
When home for Christmas I made sure to pop by one of their stores and grab some white curls in a bag – or three of them.
Only used one, but tangled half of it up so glad I bought the extra bags – maybe I will make another one some day ^^
Took the most of Sunday, while watching the three extended versions of Lord of the Rings at the same time to make the head-cap and sew all of the hair onto it.
Lessons learned:
Use more than one strand of curly hair – use at least up to five or six at a time.
Make the head-cap a lot larger than you think it should be – the attaching of the hair makes it shrink
But, it worked anyway and it looks the way I wanted it to – apart from it being slightly ‘shorter’ than imagined.
